Are you suffering from crooked teeth?

If yes, braces and aligners can straighten your teeth and improve your dental health. Let’s see what they are

Braces

Braces are objects used by a dentist that help straighten teeth and any other issue related to the alignment of the teeth.

Braces gradually shift the teeth over time by applying pressure, which is adjusted regularly by your orthodontist.

Types of Braces

  • Metal Braces
    • These braces are most common one. They are made up of stainless steel thus making them metallic in color. They are the most potent and most affordable option.
  • Ceramic Braces:
    • They are made up of tooth-colored material.
    • They are less noticeable, making them popular for people who want a more aesthetic treatment.
    • They are pretty expensive and catch stains more quickly due to their transparent color.
  • Lingual Braces:
    • These are placed on the inside of the teeth (on the side of tongue), making them go unnoticed.
    • More uncomfortable and challenging to clean.
  • Self-Ligating Braces:
    • These braces have a mechanism that doesn’t require elastic bands to hold the wire.
    • They require fewer visits for adjustment.

Aligners

The recent and less noticeable alternative to traditional braces is the aligner. They are medical-grade plastic trays fitting over your teeth, gently shifting them into place. Aligners are custom-made based on your dental impression or scan.

How Aligners Correct Your Teeth

  • Aligners are worn for about 20-22 hours a day and are replaced with a new set every one to two weeks.
  • They apply gentle pressure to move your teeth in small increments.
  • Aligners are removable; you can take them out while eating or brushing your teeth.

Advantages of Aligners:

  • More comfortable than traditional braces.
  • They are invisible.
  • It’s easier to maintain oral hygiene.

Limitations of Aligners:

  • Not suitable for all cases.
  • You need to be disciplined about wearing them.
  • Expensive than traditional braces.
