What to do in dental emergency situation

1. Broken or knocked-out tooth

Don’t get anxious whenever your teeth get cracked or come out due to any trauma.

a) Try to find out dentist nearby as soon as possible

b) If your tooth gets knocked out due to any reason, preserve that in cold milk. If conditions will favor your dentist can fix it back (re-implantation).

If bleeding occurs from the tooth socket press it tightly with sterilized cotton or gauze.

c) If your tooth gets cracked, it can be repaired with composite

2. Acute pain

Try to have your dental checkup every 6 months, to avoid any underlying cavity formation.

If possible, try to call the dentist and get an emergency prescription for the pain.

Clove oil can be used for mild relief or mild analgesic.

3. If an artificial crown or bridge comes out while eating food.

Keep the prosthesis and contact the dentist as soon as possible without delay. If the underlying tooth is intact, the chances are good for the same prosthesis to be fitted again. If delayed, the prosthesis won’t fit.

4. Pain after extraction

Mild pain after extraction is common. Don’t skip the medicines prescribed. Always follow the instructions given. Severe pain after 3rd day of tooth removal can be a dry socket. Contact your dentist immediately.

5 If an open dressing from undergoing root canal treatment comes out, try to consult your dentist as soon as possible.

Try to keep the mouth clean. keep doing warm saline rinses till the dentist is contacted.
